Dear WCC readers,
2021 was full of great changes for the world, and us here at WCC. And as we move deeper into 2022, it is time yet again to reflect.
2021 began with the departure from WCC of Comrade Chase. To address this, we attempted a reboot of the blog by bringing in guest contributors. This required a refining of our points of unity, which can be found here.
During this period Comrade Olivia converted to Islam, and while she continued to develop articles for WCC, she struggled to find a way to do so that accurately represented her faith commitments and the necessities of writing for a intended Christian audience.
These developments were paired with a deepening of our individual and communal political commitments and a realization that our audience was not working class people seeking a deeper articulation of things they knew. Rather than a proletarian project, WCC became a place for intraleft think pieces.
We realised that the lack of Proletarian engagement carried over into who had been chosen as guests, as much of the guest content was firmly in the realm of democratic socialist and anarchist views of Scripture and social change. The points of unity weren't designed to open the door for principled engagement with scripture as revolutionary communists, but simply as a way to open the door to a too broad swath of leftist writers.
While we do believe it is important to engage multiple perspectives, not only the choice of guests, but who was available to choose from highlighted disconnect that we feel is at this time, with this project, insurmountable.
We regret to say that as WCC never reached the audience we hoped for, we will be ending all new posting, effective immediately.
We extend a call for our readers to seek out the genuine revolutionary work in their community. To build locally and act out of the knowledge that even though God's Reign hasn't been fully established yet, Her Kindom is spread out amongst us.
For out part you can find our small contributions to revolutionary work elsewhere:
Comrade Chase can be found running the excellent podcast, Faith & Capital. There he analyses capitalism from a Christian and revolutionary communist perspective.
Comrade Chris can be found wherever one finds a servant of God.
Comrade Olivia can be found writing at Create Don't Kill, where you can catch some articles she developed for WCC during the last few months. She's also part of the Interfaith Socialist Movement, and is exploring how to bring revolutionary politics to theatrical and liturgical spaces.
Farewell All, and may the grace and love of God go with you.
May you be filled with the same confidence in God that Jesus had.
May we fulfill Christ's words that we would do greater things than him.
Amen.
Very sorry to see you go
